Over the last few years, the UK safeguarding landscape has shifted. In an attempt to mitigate discrimination, many organisations have adopted a "culture-blind" approach. We were told that "treating everyone the same" was the gold standard.

We were wrong.

By attempting to rub out our differences, we have rubbed out the very things that make us human. When we ignore race in our daily grind—in our corridor conversations, our behavior logs, and our clinical assessments—we don’t stop discrimination. We simply make it invisible.
